If playing by the numbers of your example I would prefer us to have enough to destroy the world 10,000 times over, or more. It's not about being safe because you can, it's about being safe because your enemies truly believe that you just might. Which is why we were so unsafe under Cater, everybody knew that he wouldn't and we literally got bullied. The more fire power the more nervous any potential enemy will be.

I think that's right on, but at the same time I don't think we need as many nukes as we have. It won't be long until the world will have to turn to nuclear power as a main source (if not the main source) of the world's energy. The uranium in those warheads is enriched to the point that it would yield much more energy than uranium which is normally used for energy. That's when I think you will see the US and Russia both dismantle much of the nuclear arsenals..cuz at that point it will be more economical to do so. Also, when that happens I think that not only will it be an economically sound decision, but it will seen as a goodwill gesture to the world as well. IMO, that's a win-win for both countries.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
Poetic, damn that's beautiful. I still don't agree with your stance on nukes, but damn that was a well written quote. I wish we had more eloquence like that on here. There is safety in strength and if every good man throughout history had been a pacifist the entire of mankind would either be enslaved or would have been destroyed. We must not start down that road, we must remain strong and diligent, but should try to again become honorable.
I do agree with you on single payer. That's the best plan but it'll never happen. The next best plan is the public option, but that will likely never happen either. We can only hope.

Was reading articles on CNN this morning which described the climate in Washington on Sunday...and all in all it was a disgrace. You had protesters calling lawmakers faggot$, spitting towards black lawmakers, chanting the word "n!gger" aimed at black lawmakers, causing disruptions from the House balcony (which was applauded by many Republican Representatives)..just everything. It has become quite clear that the "tea baggers" (what a name for a group that HATES gays) are nothing more than a group of racists. they can claim all they want that they aren't, but that's the truth. They are the same people who put Bush in office TWICE and effectively put us in the deep hole we are in now. THEY ARE NOTHING SHORT OF IGNORANT, MOSTLY UNEDUCATED BIGOTS who spread misinformation and effectively undermine our democracy...if that hurts anyone's feelings on this board, I hate that for ya...but that's how it is...they are even lower than ACORN, and ACORN is pretty darn low. Now you have high ranking GOP members like John "McBush" McCain promising no GOP cooperation in the Senate for the remainder of the year further dividing our nation. The way I see it, being a Congressman is a job...and his words CLEARLY state that he isn't interested in, nor is he going to do his job for the next 9 months...If that's the case, he and those like him need to be thrown out on their a$$es because that's what would happen to anyone else who had a job but refused to work.. For all of y'all that whine, squawl, and rant about not wanting to support folks looking for a free ride, sounds to me like McCain qualifies. I'm not trying to stir a firestorm with this post, but the hypocracy of many of these groups and the character of the groups themselves (especially the Tea Baggers) needs to be exposed for what it is..and that is nothing more than RACISM AND HATE. (Sorry for circumventing the filters mods, but IMO the post needed to be clear and to that end I didn't want to leave any ambiguity)
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
Since this is an all over-18 board, plus a board that people request access to, there aren't filters on here I don't think. If there are, they weren't created by any of our mods, but by HostBoard.
Anywho...great post. Tea Baggers are effed up in the head majorly. Those Republican politicians who listen to them are even more effed up.

Really, the only good thing the 'Baggers do is split the GOP vote....so we need to keep these idiots around...lol.. If you are familiar with Russian Literature, Divine Providence is used in many of their classical works. Divine Providence is basically any instance where God allows evil people or things to do evil works as long as it benefits the greater good of mankind. For example, in Buglakov's "Master and Margarita" God allows Satan to go about Moscow killing off followers of Stalin, KGB agents, etc. through especially gruesome means. I guess that's why the book has been banned in that country in its unedited form since it was first published for the most part (1930's). I think the tea baggers serve a similar purpose..and that purpose is to take enough of the GOP vote away from their mainstream candidates in the primaries to produce an unsavory candidate for the general elections (who because of their extreme views are unelectable when pitted against candidates from other parties)...so I hope they keep up the "good" work...

I'll co-sign.
You had them calling Barney Frank names, the black members names, then the guy yelling "Baby Killer" at Stupak...

It's disgraceful. Of course there are people of different races, they are few and far between, it is mostly wealthy, white males(big surprise) and overwhelmingly conservatives. I just can't stand when they try to pass off as this melting pot of all colors and full of independents.
Btw, there's a chance that McCain might be out in November, not as much the dems..but his challenger.
Look who we're talking about. I don't doubt for a second they soak that up, judging from the sites they post.
The only problem with this bill, is that it doesn't go far enough. We needed the public option, we've come this far and I'm thrilled about this bill though.
What are your feelings about the Senate plan minus the reconcilliation package? Knowing that it is possible the Senate doesn't accept reconcilliation, the original Senate plan goes through as law, correct?
